My first bake and first blog of the year 2019. Starting on a sweet note. Whole Wheat Banana Walnut Cake recipe with step by step pictures – Soft, moist and delicious that is super easy to make.

This is my all-time favourite banana cake recipe with goodness of walnut. I make this often and I dont need any reason to make this cake and savour it. It is so soft, fluffy and moist crumb.

The best way to use overriped banana laying in your kitchen counter is to make this easy wholesome cake. This cake is so versatile, can have it as a tea cake or as a dessert with your favourite frosting or just dizzle of chocolate. It is also a very healthy anytime snacking for kids and also a great option for kids tiffin box.

All of the above recipes are super easy to prepare, ready in no time, and will never disappoint you. I highly recommend you to try them.

To make this cake more healthier I have used whole wheat flour. If you don’t want to use whole wheat flour you can make it with a mix of whole wheat and plain flour or just with plain flour.

Cooking time : 35 mins
Serves : 6

☆ Measuring cup used is 240 ml

Ingredients to make banana walnut cake:
1 cup Whole wheat flour
2 Bananas riped
1/2 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Buttermilk
1 tsp Baking powder
1/2 tsp Baking soda
1 tsp Cinnamon powder
1 tsp Vanilla extract
1/4 cup Oil
1/4 cup Walnut chopped
1 Banana for garnish

*If you don’t have buttermilk, do not worry you can easily make at home. Take 1 cup of warm milk and add 1 tbsp of vinegar or lime juice, stir and keep for few mins and it is ready to use.

Step by step pictorial instructions to make banana walnut cake:

In a mixing bowl add the banana and mash them with fork or you can use electric beater.

In the banana mixture add buttermilk, sugar, oil, vanilla extract and mix well.

In a mixing bowl sieve the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon powder for twice and mix well.

Add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and gently fold to make a smooth batter.

Add the flour coated walnut into the batter and give a quick stir. Do not over mix the batter.

Grease a cake pan with oil and preheat oven @180° for 10 mins.

Pour the batter into the greased pan and tap 2-3 times to release the air bubbles inside.

Garnish with chopped walnut and banana slices and bake @180° for 35-40 mins until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Remove the cake from oven and let it cool down. Invert and slice after the cake is cooled down completely.

  1. I am searching from a long time a whole wheat cake . We can use milk instead of buttermilk or curd with water . If we add water in curd it is called buttermilk . But how much curd and water is required. Plz i want to bake as soon as possible. Loving it

  2. Hey, this looks so good.. I tried baking it and the portion below the banana slice was not looked.. it was just some portion below the banana slice. Rest the cake was baked.. do you have any tips for that

  3. Hi Akum. I love your blogs and have tried couple if recipes. I tries the apple cinnamon cake without eggs. Ot was super awesome in taste. It was all finished as soon as it came out of the oven. The only problem was, it was not fluffy. It was moist but dense. Can you guide where i went wrong ?

  4. Today i tried the banana cake. Super awesome. Soft moist and delicious. But still i feel i go wrong on the spongy part. Please guide. I have taken exact ingredients as per thr recipe. I beat the batter with electric beater for about 8-9 minutes. Oven pre heated for 10 minutes and baled for 40 minutes
