Lemony Fish Stew

A low fat fish stew that is simple with lemony fragrant, studded with veggies, herbs and mildly spiced. Rustic and light, this flavorful stew can be made in just 20 minutes. Serve it with piping hot rice, as a soup on it’s own or with garlic bread or plain toasted bread.

Lemony fish stew is a very comforting wholesome stew of fish and vegetables with fresh lemon juice. I love this to have with piping hot steamed rice. You can even sip it like a soup.

This lemon fish stew is much easier to prepare than you might expect with a handful of ingredients that are used daily in our pantry and it is ready in under 20 minutes. Without much efforts a delicious and flavorful stew is in the table. This fish stew is perfect to make and devour during rainy days and monsoon season.

You can use any fish to fit your preference such as with bone, boneless or fillets. Whatever you can find available to you will do. Also use the vegetables that are available, any seasonal veggies or any of your favourite vegetables.

Lemony fish stew with vegetables is zero oil dish. Without any guilt you can happily relish it. It is indeed a very heart warming, healthier and nutritious dish. A real comfort dish!

INGREDIENTS THAT GOES INSIDE THE FISH STEW

Fish
Green chilly 
Tomato 
Ginger 
Garlic 
Potato
Carrot
Broccoli
Cracked peppercorns
Spring onion

Lemon juice

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

Zero oil lemony fish stew with vegetables is a straight forward recipe. In this super easy fish stew, everything can be cooked in one large pot and is beautifully cooked and seasoned to create a hearty and scrumptious fish stew.

Start by putting altogether the fish, potato, green chilly, tomato, ginger, garlic, salt, water and cook for few minutes. Then add in the carrot and broccoli and cook for just a couple of minutes. Lastly add in the cracked peppercorns, spring onion, coriander leaves, lemon juice, give a quick mix and take off the heat. Voila your delicious and scrumptious fish stew is ready to be relished. Enjoy it with piping hot rice or sip it as a soup.

HOW TO MAKE LEMONY FISH STEW?

Here’s a step by step pictorial instructions to make this scrumptious lemony fish stew.

In a pot add the fish slices, potato, green chilly, tomato, ginger, garlic, salt and water.

Give a gentle quick stir. Cover the pot with lid and cook for about 10-12 minutes.

Add in the carrot and brocolli florets. Put the lid on and cook for another 3-5 mins.

Add the cracked peppercorns, spring onion, coriander leaves and lemon juice.

Give a quick gentle mix and cook for a minute and take off the heat.

NOTES:

● I have used rohu fish (fresh water carp). You can use any fish of your choice.
● You can use prawn/shrimp instead of fish.
● You can also add veggies like cauliflower, green peas or any seasonal vegetable  or vegetable which you like.
● You can add herbs of your choice.
● Increase the spice level as per your palate preference.

VARIATIONS:

If you love to cook this stew with oil. Heat a tablespoon of oil or butter. Saute some onion (optional), green chillies,  chopped ginger and garlic for few minutes. You can add little chilly powder or paprika if you like. Then add the fish, season with salt, water. From here follow the same process as mentioned in the recipe. It taste equally good. Ingredients
  

  • 6 pieces fish
  • 2  potato cubed or wedges
  • 2 green chilly chopped
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 1 inch ginger chopped
  • 4-5 cloves garlic chopped
  • salt as per taste
  • 2-3 cups water
  • 1 carrot sliced or cubed
  • 1 cup broccoli (1 small broccoli)
  • ½ teaspoon cracked peppercorn
  • ½ cup spring onion chopped
  • 2 tablespoon coriander leaves chopped
  • 3 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions
