Aloo chaat is a very famous snacks and also one of the popular street food. Aloo chaat is fried potato cubes tossed in sweet and spicy chutneys, few basic spices and topped with curd, sev, pomegranate arils etc as per ones choice.

It is a refreshing dish with a lot of different flavours coming along as one. A savoury snacks which is widely loved by all – sweet, spicy and sour that keeps your mouth watering and longing for more. This serves as a great appetizer or as a starter or anytime snacks when you want to have something which is quick and easy to make and at the same time delicious and chatpata.

This aloo chaat is one of the simplest recipe with just a handful of ingredients. The ingredients used to make this aloo chaat are basic ingredients which are easily sourcable which we use in our daily cooking.

KEY INGREDIENT OF THIS ALOO CHAAT

Fried potatoes is the key. For aloo chaat the potatoes used are deep fried. For this easy aloo chaat I have shallow fried the potatoes for more healthier version. The boiled cubed potatoes are shallow fried in lesser oil till they are crispy golden brown from all sides.

SPICES USED IN THIS ALOO CHAAT

The fried potatoes are tossed in few basic spices. The spices used to make the aloo chaat chapata and lip-smacking are red chilly, chaat masala, roasted cumin powder and black salt.

OTHER INGREDIENTS USED IN THIS ALOO CHAAT

Apart from fried potatoes and spices the other ingredients used in this aloo chaat are chopped onions, green chillies, curd, tamarind chutney, sev, coriander leaves and sour black grapes for garnish.

FEW VARIATIONS WHICH CAN BE ADDED TO THIS SIMPLE ALOO CHAAT

▪︎ Can add boiled chickpea.

▪︎ Can add boiled potatoes instead of fried ones.

▪︎ Can add pomegranate arils for sweet crunch. It also add beautiful colour to the chaat too.

▪︎ Can add kara or savoury boondis – fried gram flour.

▪︎ Can add mint chutney or any sweet spicy chutneys.

▪︎ Can squeeze some lemon juice before serve the chaat.

Notes:

▪︎ The potatoes should be just cooked and not very soft or mushy.

▪︎ You can fry the potatoes in ghee for the real flavour.

▪︎ You can fry the potatoes in an air fryer with a dash of oil for a healthier version.

▪︎ Use thick curd. If your curd is not thick hung the curd in muslin cloth or use a strainer to drain the water from the curd.

▪︎ Use good quality curd which is not sour in taste.

Serves: 3

Ingredients for Aloo Chaat:

3 potato peeled and cubed
1 large onion chopped
1 chilly chopped
1 tsp Red Chilly powder
½ tsp chaat masala
½ tsp roasted cumin powder
2-3 tbsp curd/yogurt
1 tbsp tamarind chutney
3 tbsp sev/bhujia
Few coriander leaves chopped
3 tbsp oil
Black salt/rock salt/normal salt to taste

How to make Aloo Chaat:

Boil the potato in some water seasoned with salt till it is cooked but not mushy.

Heat oil in a frying pan and add the boiled potatoes in the hot oil.

Shallow fry the potatoes till golden brown from all sides.

In a mixing bowl add the fried potatoes, onions, chillies, spice powders, tamarind chutney and salt.

Mix them well gently.

Spoon the chaat mixture in individual serving bowl, topped it with curd and sprinkle a generous amount of sev or bhujia and coriander leaves.

Your lip-smacking chatpata aloo chaat is ready to be served. Enjoy!
