Down the memory lane. I still remember back home the chana wala coming to the colony street selling the jhal chana everyday shouting ‘Jhal Chana Jhal Chana’ lol and we use to run and come out of the house and call him and devour this chatpata chaat; so spicy, mouthwatering and lip-smacking.

Chana chaat is a spicy, tangy and flavorful chana salad. This is a great dish for weight watchers. It’s an excellent way to lose a couple of pounds if you have this healthy salad for lunch or dinner; being healthy and a filling dish.

A chapata and healthy chaat recipe with step by step pictures. This recipe of Chana chaat is one of the easiest chaat recipe. It is easy and quick to prepare and utterly delicious and lip-smacking. Furthermore it is healthy too since the chana, peas and potatoes are not fried after cooking. These are just boiled and tossed up with spices, onion, chilly and tomato.

The recipe starts by soaking the black chana and dried green peas for 3-4 hours or best is overnight. Then this are pressure cooked along with potatoes for 3-4 whistles. Once the pressure is released naturally take out the chana, peas and potatoes in a bowl. Finally it is tossed with chopped onions, chillies, tomatoes, spice powders, amchur powder, coriander leaves, a dash of raw mustard oil and lemon juice. Voila your chana chaat is ready to be served. You can make this recipe oil free by omitting the raw .mustard oil. Who can resist this mouthwatering chana chaat! Thinking and looking at it my mouth starts watering 😂.

In India chaats are very popular and you will come across different varieties of chaats from different regions of India. Among the chaats Aloo chaat is one of my favourite, crispy potatoes with chutney, yogurt and miscellany of spices. Simple delicious it is. I also loved the Beach Style Peanut Sundal/Chaat, a famous sundal/chaat from the street of Chennai and regions of Tamil Nadu.

I love black chana/chickpea very much so I used to cook it regularly in my kitchen. I love to cook variety of dishes with it. I used to soak in large quantity and store in fridge. Raw chana salad / Kachi Chana Salad is one quick recipe which I like to have it anytime to kill my sudden hunger pangs. Also I like the Chana Masala / Chickpea Dry Curry and Chickpea Soya Curry when roti or chapati in the meal menu.
