Chana Chaat

Chana chaat also called as jhal chana chaat is an Indian style chaat/salad which is a famous street food. Chana chaat is a spicy, tangy and flavorful chana salad. A chatpata and one of the easiest chaat recipe.

Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • ½ Cup Black chickpea soaked
  • ½ Cup Green peas soaked
  • 1 Large Potato peeled
  • 1 Large Onion chopped
  • 1 Medium Tomato chopped
  • 2-3 Medium Chilli chopped (used both green and red chillies)
  • ½ Inch Ginger chopped
  • Few Sprigs Coriander leaves chopped
  • 2 Teaspoon Red chilli powder Or as per taste
  • ½ Teaspoon Cumin powder
  • ½ Teaspoon Chaat masala Or garam masala powder
  • ½ Teaspoon Pepper crushed or powder
  • 2 Teaspoon Salt Or as per taste
  • 1 Tablespoon Mustard oil optional (can use olive oil)
  • 1 Teaspoon Lemon juice

Instructions
 

  • Soak the chana and matar for 3-4 hours atleast or overnight.
  • In a pressure cooker add the peeled potato, soaked channa and matar, add half cup water and pressure cook for about 3-4 whistles and let the pressure release by itself.
  • Open the cooker and take out the chana ,peas and potato. Cut the potato into small dice.
  • In a mixing bowl add the pressure cooked channa, matar and chopped potatoes.
  • Add in all the remaining ingredients except lemon juice and mix well.
  • Just before serving squeeze the lemon juice, mix well and serve the chatpata jhal chana chaat. Enjoy!

Notes

  1. Adjust the spice level as per your palate preference.
  2. Adding oil is optional but if using I prefer mustard oil.
  3. You can also use amchur powder (dry mango powder) in place of chaat masala or garam masala powder.
