And if it’s not, you can easily get them in your nearby grocery store.

WHAT IS CUSTARD POWDER?

Custard powder is a powdered mix of cornflour, essence and colour. In this recipe I am going to show how to make custard powder in 2 ways. One of the important ingredient in custard powder is corn flour, which acts as a thickening agent.

Custard powder once cook with milk or water will give you a creamy, luscious, eggless, custard sauce to pour over cakes, apple pie, pudding, fruit custard and other dessert.You can use this custard powder mix in fruit custard, custard sauce, ice creams, pudding, cakes, cookies and in so many recipes. This post will show you how to make custard powder from scratch in 2 ways. The first one with only 3 ingredients – cornflour, vanilla essence and food colour. The second way is with 5 ingredients. Just add powdered sugar and milk powder to the first method and your instant custard powder is ready. INGREDIENTS USED TO MAKE CUSTARD POWDER

Making homemade custard powder is so easy. With the below mentioned ingredients readily available in the pantry you will have an amazing instant custard powder readily available whenever needed. The ingredients used are:

Cornflour/Cornstarch

Vanilla essence/extract

Yellow food colour

Sugar

Milk powder

If you look at the ingredients in any custard powder package bought from store, you will see only 3 ingredients i.e. cornflour, essence and colour. Here in addition to the 3 main ingredients I have added milk powder and sugar to make an instant custard powder which can turn into a rich, sweet vanilla sauce or custard once heated with milk or water.

Custard powder are readily available in grocery stores and super market. And nowadays it has come up and available in many flavors. This recipe is the standard vanilla flavor. I have used a vanilla essence from the brand Ossoro. Their vanilla custard essence is amazing. With just couple of drops it gives an awesome flavor and taste to your stuffs. You can use any brand vanilla essence. Just try to add pure vanilla extract or use a good brand vanilla essence for the enhance taste and flavor.

STORAGE SUGGESTIONS

Store the powder in a clean and sterilized jar in a cool and dry place. For longer shelf life store in refrigerator. It stays good for from 3-6 months.

HOW TO MAKE CUSTARD POWDER?

Here is how to make this amazing custard powder at home in few simple steps.

Version 1:

In a mixing bowl add in the cornflour, vanilla essence and food colour.

Mix and combine the mixture. Put them in a mixie jar or blender and blitz them for few seconds. Simply sieve the mixture incase if there is any lumps or impurities and your 3 ingredients custard powder is ready.

Version 2:

In a mixie or blender add in the sugar and grind it to a fine powder.

In a mixing bowl add in the cornflour, vanilla essence, food colour, powdered sugar and milk powder. Mix well.

Put the mixture into a mixie jar or blender and blitz to combine for about few seconds. Sieve the mixture and store it in an airtight container.

NOTES

:● I have used Ossoro vanilla custard essence. If you’re using normal vanilla essence, please use 1 tsp.

● I have used ½ cup granulated sugar and powdered it. If you are using powdered sugar, you need to use 1 cup (100 grams).

● Make sure you use fresh ingredients as that determines the shelf life of the custard powder.

● Colour is added to give the custard a hint of yellow. You can totally skip it.

● You can use icing sugar instead of sugar. You can use icing sugar upto.1 cup.

● Blending the final mixture in food processor or blender will give a smooth and well blended mixture, especially the food colour and essence.
