Equipment

  • Mixer grinder
  • Heavt bottom pan

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (400 grams) peanut
  • 1 tablespoon briwn sugar or honey /maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon oil

Instructions

  • In a heavy bottom pan roast the peanuts on a medium flame for 3-5 minutes. Stir them frequently for even roasting. You need to roast the peanut only until the peanuts are lightly browned and smell nutty. Be careful, they get burn easily. Remove from the heat and let cool for sometime.
  • Place the peanuts in a kitchen cloth or towel and rub them to remove the skin easily. You can do this using your hands. Rub them in between your palms.
  • Add the roasted peanuts and sugar to the bowl of a food processor. Run the processor on low to medium speed for 1 minute. The peanut will look like crumbs at this stage. Scrape sides of the bowl with a spatula. (Check notes #1)
  • Run the processor for another 1 to 2 minutes. The mixture will turn thick.
  • If you're using honey and salt, add them at this stage. Add your desired amount of salt and honey then process until combined. (You can add ¼ teaspoon of salt and tablespoon of honey).
  • Finally add in the oil and process for about 1 minute or until the peanut butter is creamy, smooth and spreadable consistency.
  • For crunchy peanut butter, stir in the reserved peanuts. (Check notes #1)

Notes

  1. If you are making crunchy peanut butter, add ½ to ⅓ cup of the roasted peanuts onto the food processor. Pulse 5 to 6 times, or until the peanuts are coarsely chopped. Transfer them to a bowl and reserve for later.
  2. Roast the peanuts on medium heat and not more than 5 minutes.
  3. Roast the peanuts only until light browned and smell nutty. Do not burn them. It will completely spoil the taste and colour of the peanut butter
  4. Stir the peanuts frequently while roasting to prevent from burning and even roasting.
  5. You can use honey or maple syrup instead of brown sugar.
  6. Start the processor on low and work your way up to medium, then high. This reduces wear and tear on the motor, and blends everything better.
  7. Do not pulse the processor for too long. To prevent overheating your machine, process in short intervals of about 30 seconds.
  8. Press 'stop' and scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula midway through processing. This makes sure that anything that gets stuck on the edges of the blender actually gets incorporated
  9. At the final stage add little oil for a shiny, smooth, creamy and spreadable consistency.
