Let’s make your morning breakfast fun by serving these delicious steamed chocolate idlis. An eggless steamed chocolate cake shaped it like an idli made using an idli steamer with limited ingredients like all purpose flour, semolina (rava) and cocoa powder.
Idli is a soft, pillowy steamed savoury cake made from rice and lentil fermented batter. Idli is a popular breakfast in South Indian household. It is served with variety of chutney like coconut chutney, red chutney etc and a lentil soup called sambar. Today’s post is a sweet version of Idli made with common flour, semolina aka rava and flavored with chocolate.
This recipe uses very less oil and sugar. It is also a no butter and egg free recipe. We can replace common flour (maida) with whole wheat flour or oats flour to make it fiber rich. Sweetness can be increased as per your preference. Regular sugar can be replaced with brown sugar, cane sugar, honey etc.
Choco Idli Cake is easy and quick to prepare. It doesn’t require any fancy ingredients or techniques. All we need is the easily available ingredients, a bowl, a spoon or spatula and an idli steamer. And it is ready under 20 minutes. All you need to do once the idli cakes are steamed is to garnish them with the chocolate spread and some other fun toppings like chocolate chips, sprinkles, nuts, gems etc.
Don’t have an idli steamer? Not to worry, you can steam them in cupcakes using a normal steamer or a pot using a stand to hold the cupcakes.
