Looking for easy mutton curry with flavors intact? If yes, you have landed at the right place! Today’s post is a super easy mutton curry recipe with coriander seeds which is made using minimum spice ingredients.

Tender, succulent pieces of meat are cooked in a semi-spicy onion, tomato and freshly grounded coriander seeds gravy that makes it the perfect bowl of comfort food with basmati rice or any Indian flatbread. Its a basic recipe but simply amazing; spicy, flavorful and lip-smacking. You will definitely fall in love with it and I bet this will be a regular in your kitchen too.

The main ingredients in this recipe apart from mutton is the coriander seeds. It is advisable to use coriander seeds and ground them fresh and not the ready made store bought coriander powder. Dry roast the coriander seeds and ground them to powder. Freshly grounded coriander seeds gives a pleasant and aromatic flavor to the dish.

One of the easiest mutton curry recipe and simple process of cooking with minimal ingredients.

I have learned this recipe from my mom-in-law. I have just replace the meat with mutton instead of chicken though I have cooked with chicken also couple of times. The chicken version is one of my husband’s favourite and is a regular in my kitchen.

I so wanted to share this version of chicken curry on the blog because you guys will love it! But everytime we ended up polishing it before I could take any pictures. But I am finally here with the mutton version; the best, easiest Indian mutton curry for all you comfort food seekers and mutton curry lovers. The ingredients used are so basic and minimal and I promise you dont need whole garam masala, garam masala powder or meat masalas to flavor the dish. The freshly grounded coriander seeds does all the trick. Here I have used hand chopper to finely chop the onions and tomatoes. This helps in getting a thick smooth gravy.

Notes :

✔ Mutton can be kept marinated ahead of time for 2-3 hours .

✔ You can cook the mutton in the pot instead of pressure cooking it.

✔ Use only freshly grounded coriander seeds powder.

✔ You can use chicken instead of mutton.

✔ You can use boneless mutton too.

Preparation time : 15 minutes
Cooking time : 30 minutes
Serves : 3

Ingredients :

500 gms Mutton
2 tbsps Oil
3 tbsps coriander seeds
3 dry red chillies
1 tbsp ginger garlic crushed
1 sprig Curry leaves
2 onion finely chopped
2 small tomato finely chopped
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp red chilly powder
Salt to taste
Water as required

Instructions :

Dry roast the coriander seeds for a min and grind them into a fine powder. Keep aside.

Add the mutton in a bowl, add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, 1 tbsp of coriander powder, salt to taste, mix well and keep aside while you make ready the other ingredients.

Add the marinated mutton in a pressure cooker and cook in medium heat for about 10 minutes stirring it occasionally.

Add 1 cup water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles. Let the pressure release naturally.

Heat oil in a pot. Add dry red chillies, crushed ginger garlic, curry leaves and saute for a minute.

Add finely chopped onion and saute for 2 minutes.

Add finely chopped tomato and saute till onion turns mushy.

Add the coriander seeds powder and saute for a minute.

Add the pressure cooked mutton, mix well with the masala and cook for 5 minutes on high heat.

Add water as required and cook for another 10 minutes and take off the heat. Your flavorful mutton curry is ready to be served. Enjoy it with piping hot steam rice or any Indian flatbread.
