Sattu Oats Cookies is a simple and easy cookie recipe prepared with minimum ingredients. This cookie is prepared with sattu and other ingredients like oats and jaggery. It is a no baking powder, no baking soda and no white sugar recipe.

What is Sattu?
Sattu is referred to as a “poor man’s protein”. It is not only tasty, but packed with lots of health benefits as well. It is basically a flour-like ingredient that is high in nutrients and is often called the powerhouse of energy. It is typically made of roasted bengal gram (Kala Chana).

Though it is readily available in market nowadays, you can easily make it at home. The kala chana is dry roasted, allowed to cool down and then grind them into a fine powder in a grinder. Your homemade sattu is ready to use. However, nowadays sattu is available in different combinations, with wheat, barley or sorghum (jowar) etc.

Sattu is consumed by natives of Bihar, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, UP and West Bengal. Lately this underrated food has received much recognition and steadily gaining popularity. Sattu can be used in various ways. With sattu we can make both sweet and savory drinks, sattu ke parathe, litti chokha, sattu ke ladoo, upma etc.

Sattu Oats Cookies

Preparation time : 10 mins
Cooking time : 15-18 mins
Serves : Makes 10-12 cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup Sattu flour
3/4 powdered Oats
1/2 cup Jaggery powder
3 tbsp Oil
2 tbsp Milk
A pinch of salt
10 Almond for garnish

Instructions :

In a bowl add the jaggery, oil, milk, salt and whisk to blend them well.

Add sattu flour, powdered oats and mix well. Knead them into a dough and rest the dough for 5-10 mins.

Divide the dough into equal portions and roll them into balls and slightly flatten them. The sizes of the balls depends upon you.

Place them in a greased baking tray and with a fork make insertions and place the almond in the center.

Preheat the oven @170° for 10 mins.

Bake the cookies in preheated oven for 18 mins. Baking time will differ depending upon ones oven temperature so start checking from 15 mins onwards.

Let the cookies stand in the oven for about 5 mins then remove from oven, let it cool down completely and serve or store in airtight container.
