Beach is one place which noone hesitates to visit, be it a kid, adult or anyone irrespective of age. No trip to the beach is complete without this quintessential “Beach Style Verkadalai Sundal”. The pleasure and fond memories we got enjoying this Beach Style Verkadalai Sundal sitting at the beach is beyond words.

Verkadalai means peanuts in Tamil. This boiled peanut chaat is one of the popular street food of Chennai, infact all over Tamil Nadu. From amongst many varieties of food that we come across in the beach, this Beach Style Verkadalai Sundal is one of my favourite and can’t resist to have it. So colorful to look at and lip-smacking.

Not only in beaches but you will also see this masala peanut chaat wala in certain market places and streets of Chennai. You can find these road side vendors holding boiled peanuts in a big pan. They will take a handful of it and then mix it with ingredients like chopped raw mango, sweet corn, carrot, onion, tomatoes, green chillies, spice powders etc. A little salt, a dash of lemon, some chopped coriander is all you need for seasoning and sundal is ready. We have one near my place, so sometimes my hubby used to buy and bring along while returning back from work in the evenings.

Beach style verkadalai sundal is a healthy and delicious peanut salad. Boiled peanuts are nutritious and has many health benefits. It has boiled peanut, raw mango, sweet corn, onion, tomato, carrot, cucumber, green chilly, coriander leaves and spiced with flavorful Indian spice powders. It is easy to prepare and can be enjoyed as anytime snacks. All the ingredients are easily available in out kitchen pantry. Once the peanuts are boiled just combine all the ingredients with the boiled peanuts and that’s it, your tasty and delicious peanut chaat is ready to be devoured. Homemade version is of course always healthier.

Boiled peanuts are delicious as such. If you want to turn it into a flavour-packed, filling salad, try this beach style peanut chaat. It is super easy and quick to put together and yummy.

Peanuts are an especially good source of healthful fats, protein, and fiber. They also contain plenty of potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, and B vitamins. Despite being high in calories, peanuts are nutrient-rich and low in carbohydrates. So it is indeed a healthy food if consumed in moderation.

Preparation time : 5 mins

Ingredients :

1 cups Raw Peanut
1/2 cup Sweet corn boiled
1 small Raw Mango
1 Onion large
1 Carrot small
1 Cucumber small
1 Tomato small
1-2 Green chilly
2-3 tbsp coriander leaves
1 tsp Red chilli powder or as per taste
Juice of one lemon or as per taste
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp Chaat masala optional

Instructions :

Pressure cook the raw peanut for 3-4 whistles. Let the pressure release it naturally. Drain the water completely.

Meanwhile finely chop the mango, onion, carrot, cucumber, tomato, green chilly, coriander leaves and keep.aside.

Add the boiled peanut in a mixing bowl.

Add all the chopped ingredients, salt, chilly powder, chaat masala if using and squeeze the lemon juice.

Toss them well together. Delicious and tasty beach style peanut sundal is ready to eat. Enjoy!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup (200 grams) raw peanut
  • ½ cup sweet corn boiled
  • 1 small raw mango
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 1 small carrot chopped
  • 1 small cucumbe chopped
  • 1 small tomato chopped
  • 1-2 nos green chilly chopped
  • 2-3 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp red chilly powder or as pr taste
  • 1 small lemon (extract the juice)
  • ½ teaspoon salt or as per taste
  • ½ teaspoon chaat masala (optional)

Instructions
