Aloo Bonda is a South Indian style recipe prepared with potato, gram flour, rice flour and few Indian spices. Aloo bonda is a famous South Indian street food and a popular snack across the region.

Aloo Bonda is a deep fried snacks made of spiced potato balls which are dipped in gram flour and rice flour batter and deep fried to golden beauties; crispy outer coating and soft delicious spiced potato stuffing.

Bonda is an Indian snack with both sweet and savoury version and is called by different names in different region. So the recipe I am sharing today is a South Indian sytle savoury version “Aloo Bonda” a perfect party snacks served in style with bread tarts and an amazing snacks for monsoon season.

You can also simply make the aloo bonda on a normal day for evening tea snacks, during festivals or when you have guests coming at your home. These bondas are also good to serve as a side dish with your meal.

Today I am presenting the aloo bonda in a bread tart and served along with fried curry leaves, fried chillies, green chutney and onion rings.

To make this delicious snacks you just need few ingredients in place and it is prepared within few minutes without making much efforts. It is an easy-to-make snacks and is best when paired with coconut and coriander chutney. So lets head on to the recipe. Cooking time : 30 mins
Serves : 5-6

Ingredients for Aloo Bonda:

2-3 potato
1 large Onion finely chopped
1 Green Chilly finely
1 sprig Curry leaves chopped
Few Coriander leaves chopped
1/2 inch Ginger chopped
1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
1/2 tsp Garam Masala powder
A pinch Asafodita /Hung
1/4 tsp Cumin powder
1/2 tsp Coriander powder
1/2 tsp Chilly powder
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
1/4 cup Garam flour/Besan
2 tbsp Rice flour
Salt to taste
1/2 cup water or as required
Oil for deep frying

Few bread slices for the making the tart

For serving : Fried curry leaves, fried green chillies, green chutney and onion rings

Method:

In a mixing bowl add the team flour, rice flour, turmeric powder, chilly powder, water, mix well and make a smooth thick lumps free batter.

In a frying pan add 2 tbsp oil. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and let it splutter.

Add chopped onion, green chilly, ginger, coriander leaves, curry leaves and data for 2 mins.

Add garam masala powder, coriander powder, asafodita, cumin powder and saute for a min.

Add the cooked mashed potato, season with salt and mix well. Stir well and incorporate them nicely and saute for 3-5 mins. Take off the heat and let the mixture cool down.

Take small portion of the mixture and roll them into balls with the help of your palms.

In a deep frying pan add oil for deep frying. When the oil is smoking hot, summer the flame .

Now dip the rolled balls into the batter and drop gently into the oil in batches.

Deep fry them in medium heat till golden and crisp. Remove and drain them in absorbent paper.

For making the tart, cut off the sides of the bread. Roll them nicely with a help of rolling pin. Insert them in the tart mould and bake in preheated oven for 5-7 mins until it is slightly brown.

Remove the tart from the mould. Place the aloo bonda on it. Serve them with green chutney, fried chillies, onion rings and fried curry leaves.
