This Easy Mutton Fry recipe is so simple and at the same time a very flavorful dish. It is made with just few basic ingredients which are easily available in our kitchen.

To cook this mutton fry we don’t need any fancy technique or ingredients. It is one recipe which does not require much effort to prepare and can be quickly made if all the ingredients are ready in place. Cooked in less than an hour with simplest of ingredients. It is so easy and simple to prepare yet so delicous, flavorful and full of aroma.

In this recipe I have par cooked the marinated mutton in pressure cooker for 4-5 whistles before frying it. You can cook it in a pot if you don’t want to pressure cook it and also if you have enough time and not in rush. Pressuring cooking before frying also depends upon the tenderness of your mutton. The mutton can be marinated for longer time if you have planned in advance to make this recipe for the spices to penetrate well in the meat and to get more tastier lip smacking dish.

This mutton fry recipe is so versatile that it can be cooked and served in your regular daily meal, parties, festivals or any special occasions at home. It can be served as an appetizer with your favourite drink or a side with your meal – any variety of rice or any Indian flat breads like roti, chapathi, parantha or dosa and idli. It goes well with almost everything.

  • Cooking time : 40 mins
  • Serves : 3

Ingredients for marination :

  • 300 grams Mutton
  • 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp Red Chilly powder
  • 2 tbsp Curd / Yogurt
  • Salt to taste

Ingredients for Frying Mutton :

  • 2-3 tbsp Oil
  • 2 Onion chopped
  • 2 Green Chilly chopped
  • 1 small Tomato chopped
  • 1 inch Ginger chopped
  • 4-5 Garlic chopped
  • 2 sprigs Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Garam masala powder
  • 1 tsp roasted coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Crushed pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Few Coriander leaves chopped

Method :

Wash the mutton nicely and cut them into bite size. In a bowl add the mutton and all the ingredients mentioned in the marination ingredient list. Mix well and keep them marinated, the longer time the better.

Add the marinated mutton in a pressure cooker. Rinse the bowl with very little water and pressure cook the mutton foe 4-5 whistles. Let the pressure release naturally. Turn on the heat and evaporate the water completely if any stock remaining.

In a pan heat the oil. Add the curry leaves and fry till crisp. Remove half of the fried curry leaves and keep aside. Add chopped ginger and garlic and saute for a min.

Add the chopped onions and green chilly and saute till onion turns soft. Add the chopped tomato and saute till tomato turns mushy.

Add the par cooked mutton and mix well. Continue to fry for about 15 mins stirring it continuously to prevent from burning.

Add Garam masala powder, roasted coriander powder, crushed pepper, season with salt and mix well. Cook for another 5 mins. Add chopped coriander leaves, give a quick stir and take off the heat.

Garnish with the remaining fried curry leaves, onion rings and serve.
